Please accept my warmest congratulations on the occasion of the Academy of this now established and globally recognized forum. Varna, with its traditional festivals, has long been a center that unites cultural, musical, scientific and educational events. For me, as mayor, it is an honor to be part of these processes related to the development of our beautiful seaside city and to witness the new horizons that are unfolding before us.

Varna's festivals are our emblem, because they also bring a feeling of summer, sea, new emotions and dreams, movement, bubbling life, communication and change. I am convinced that the innovative form, extraordinary spaces, various themes and participants of the International Red Cross Film Festival Academy will impress its audience again this year. Because every society needs events that foster humanity, tolerance and understanding. Your aspiration to teach young people to harmonious coexistence and voluntary mutual assistance in the fast-paced and multi-layered city life is remarkable. I also like the idea that the festival gives space to heterogeneous groups and communities in the form of alternative contemporary art. The different view and reading of the most painful and delicate topics of the day are also interesting.

I also congratulate you on the special creative approach of the Festival, thanks to which, for so many years, the difficulties and challenges facing the modern world have been openly discussed.

In its sixty-year history, the International Red Cross and Health Film Festival reflects humanitarianism, disaster relief, improving the lives of vulnerable people and protecting their dignity through the medium of cinema.

The festival maintains continuous contact with like-minded people around the world and in Bulgaria in order to update its theme. Between the regular festival editions, we hold an Academy to which we invite the public and prominent analysts to outline current issues and look for their reflection in film and other forms for the next Festival.

Dear participants, guests and colleagues!

We are again in Varna Academy at the International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films. And this year we have included films of undisputed high quality that worthily defend our motto "Through Humanism to Peace and Friendship".

Humanity is among the seven basic principles of the Red Cross! That is why the topic of our discussion panel is "Everyday Humanism". We often hear pathetic and pompous words in this direction, which, however, miss the real real problems facing a vast majority of people today. That's why our preferred credible wording is "Everyday Humanity"! We hope that it is understood by everyone and will find its way to the audience, thanks to our authoritative speakers who will offer their reflections for free public debate.

We will be together for a number of days that pass quickly. But more important is what they will leave in the minds of everyone attending our June forum this year.
